Wood Ranch Story

About W9 Beef

Our History

Family ranching, conservation, and South Dakota stewardship.

W9 Beef comes from Wood Ranch, which was founded by Leonard and Oonagh Wood. Leonard was a fourth generation South Dakota native who, with his wife Oonagh, began ranching and acquiring land in the 1970s.

Leonard passed away in 2015 and the ranch is now run by Oonagh with the support of Trixie and Brad Grill and Leonard and Oonagh’s children and grandchildren.

Leonard’s legacy of conservation through good pasture and forest management is carried on by Oonagh, who won the South Dakota Outstanding Tree Farmer award again in 2021, 20 years after Leonard and Oonagh first received the recognition in 2001.
